-- In men’s boxing, Leon Spinks became the ‘quickest’ fighter in history to win a world title when he beat Muhammad Ali in only his eighth professional fight in 1978.

Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton, a Fil-American fighter, tries to better that record when she guns for a third straight championship in only her ninth professional bout.

The 28-year-old Filipina-American, who has been hailed by many as the woman version of Manny Pacquiao, is set to face Lisa “Bad News” Brown for the vacant WBA (World Boxing Association) Female Super Bantamweight title on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) in Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada.

Should Julaton, who sports a 6-1-1 win-loss-draw record, prevails, she will become the undisputed champion at122lbs, having won the IBA and WBO super bantamweight belts in a span of four months last year.

“Ana has elevated her training overall with more intensity since she is fighting Lisa who has a lot more experience than she does. She (Ana) has been developing her offense with more combinations, power and speed,” Julaton’s trainer Nonito Donaire Sr., father of WBA interim super flyweight champ Nonito Jr., said in an interview over GMA-7.

“Ana has been an excellent boxer to coach and work with, she puts total dedication and gives it her all when she trains.”

Julaton, daughter of Cesar and Ahmelia Bonifacio, who hail from Pozzorubio, Pangasinan and Manila respectively, arrived in Canada on Wednesday and she said she will use her speed to break down Brown whom she described as a “tough and experienced fighter.”

“Like Manny Pacquiao who I have trained with for some time, I want to be the best I can be. I'll like to be as hard working as him while being humble,” the San Francisco-based Julaton said in the same interview.

-- She already holds two world titles, but this does not stop Fil-Am prizefighter Ana “The Hurricane" Julaton from striving hard to further improve as she vies for female boxing immortality.

The Daly City-based Julaton has burst into the scene with a pair of impressive wins in 2009 that made her the super-bantamweight champ of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and the International Boxing Association (IBA) in only her seventh and eighth pro outings.

On Sunday (Manila time), the bedimpled Filipina warrior seeks to annex the vacant World Boxing Association belt, which would make her the lineal champion in the 122-lb division and a true pound-for-pound fighter.

Julaton (6-1-1) is penciled to dispute the WBA belt with veteran Lisa “Bad News" Brown (16-4-3) in a 10-round title fight at the Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada, the latter’s turf.

“It would take a lot of hard work to be on the pound-for-pound [list]," Julaton said in a media interview via Skype arranged by GMA Network, Inc. on Monday.

His trainer, Nonito Donaire, Sr., attests to Julaton’s excellent work ethic.

“Wala kang maririnig na reklamo sa kanya.Talagang pinipilit niya kahit hirap," Donaire said in the same interview attended by GMA Network executives led by president, chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon.

“Sana lahat ng magiging boksingero ko kagaya sa kanya dahil pag ganito, walang magiging problema pagdating ng laban."

Both Donaire and Julaton agreed that training camp in San Leandro for the Brown fight has been running smoothly.

“It’s been great. We have a special game plan and I look forward to [executing] it," said Julaton. “I’m ready to go. I feel great and I feel every strong."

There’s an added motivation for the Fil-Am who traces her roots to Pangasinan and Manila – the flag she carries.

“I want to represent the Filipino community and show that Filipinas have a lot of heart," said the first-ever Filipina to win a world boxing title.

-- Fresh from another triumph in the ring, Fil-Am Ana “The Hurricane" Julaton is looking to win another belt to add up to her IBA and WBO super-bantamweight crowns and at the same time win over more fans for female boxing.

The Daly City-based fighter continued her rise as among the preeminent female boxers today with a unanimous decision victory over Donna “Nature Girl" Biggers to cop the inaugural WBO 122-lb tiara last Friday in San Jose, California.

This followed up her majority decision triumph over Kelsey Jeffries in their showdown for the vacant IBA super bantamweight crown last September.

“I unified two belts. I hope I can unify another belt," Julaton (6-1-1, 1 KO) was quoted in a report posted on 15rounds.com.

Other world champions in the division include WBC and WBA queen Marcela Acuña of Argentina and WIBF holder Esther Shouten of The Netherlands but Julaton is not about to call out any names just yet.

“It would be nice to unify all of the titles, but we will see what is best to set up big, exciting fights to get a lot more fans involved with female fighting. I just want to sit back, soak everything in for right now and see what’s next," she said.

The 29-year-old Julaton aims for more than just world titles, though. She ultimately wants to help boost the popularity of women’s boxing among regular fight fans, especially in the US.

“There is a big movement and momentum with the women’s fight game. I feel we are close to bringing it to the mainstream here in America," said Julaton, who drew 3,943 fans during her win over Biggers at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

-- Ana “The Hurricane" Julaton continued to whip up a storm in women’s boxing as the Fil-Am fighter annexed the World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight title Friday at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California (Saturday in Manila).

Julaton hacked out a 10-round unanimous decision victory over veteran Donna Biggers to add the vacant WBO belt to her International Boxing Association (IBA) 122-lb strap.

Largely considered as the “female Manny Pacquiao," the Daly City-based Pinay hiked her win-loss-draw record to 6-1-1 with one knockout to her name and maintained her position among the Philippines’ world champions.

The 29-year-old Julaton is in the esteemed company of WBO welterweight boss Pacquiao, WBA interium super-flyweight king Nonito Donaire, Jr., IBF light-flyweight holder Brian Viloria, WBO minimumweight supremo Donnie Nietes, and WBC light-flyweight titlist Rodel Mayol.

Julaton first rose to fame by defeating the more inexperienced Kelsey Jeffries (41-10-1) via majority decision in their battle for the vacant IBA tiara last September and her succeeding victory over Biggers (19-9-1, 16 KOs) further cemented her status among the hottest properties in the women’s boxing scene today.

-- Filipino-American boxer Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton defeated Donna Biggers of the US via unanimous decision at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, California Friday (Saturday in the Philippines) to win the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) female super bantamweight title.

According to PhilBoxing.com, Julaton improved her record to 6-1-1 (1 coming by way of knockout) while the veteran Biggers dropped to 19-9-1 (16 KOs).

The Hurricane used her speed in the 10-round championship fight to outpunch the more experienced Biggers, who is known for her power punching style.

The win also gave Julaton a second title. She is the reigning International Boxing Association female super bantamweight champion.
