-- Filipino cue masters Lee Van “The Slayer” Corteza and Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo advanced to the Final 32 in the World Ten Ball Championship after hurdling separate foes at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
Corteza, who entered the tournament following a 4th place finish in the 2009 US Open 9-Ball Championship, carved a 9-7 win over Konstantin Stepanov.
Orcollo, the reigning Predator International 10-Ball champion, made easy work of Oscar Dominguez of the US, 9-2.
The victories allowed Corteza and Orcollo to join fellow Filipinos Warren “Warrior” Kiamco and Antonio “Nikoy” Lining in the Final 32.
All of them are after the $60,000 top prize.
Not as fortunate was another local entry Jomar de Ocampo, who yielded to Young Hwa Jeong of Korea, 9-5.
Jeong will meet Anh Tuan Nguyen of Vietnam in the next round, who upset veteran campaigner Karl Boyes of Great Britain
