-- Weather bureau PAGASA advised those going to cemeteries during All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day to bring rain gears such as jackets and umbrellas in anticipation of rainshowers or thunderstorms during the day.
PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said the country may have improved weather conditions as tropical storm Santi (international code name Mirinae) moves away from the country.
But Palawan is expected to have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms on Sunday.
The rest of the Philippines, meanwhile, will experience party cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
The center of tropical storm Santi was estimated at 610 kilometers west southwest of Metro Manila as of 10 a.m. Sunday. It has maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph.
Santi, which was moving westward at 20 kph, has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Sunday morning, PAGASA forecaster Arnel Gonzales told radio dzMM.
Meantime, forecasters are monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) that was spotted at 820 km east of Luzon.
PAGASA chief weather forecaster Nathaniel Cruz said the LPA will bring in some rain over Northern and Central Luzon on Monday.
“Itong malakas na hanging amihan ay puwedeng magbigay ng pag-ulan lalo na sa Northern and Central Luzon,” said Cruz.
“Sa susunod na linggo [ay] makakaranas [tayo] ng ulan. Hindi po ito dulot ng pagbalik ni Santi. Ito ay dulot ng hanging amihan at yong papalapit na LPA. Hindi ito bagyo, simula yan pagkatapos ng Todos Los Santos,” he added.
Go green
Meanwhile, the EcoWaste Coalition issued guidelines for those trooping to cemeteries this weekend in order for them to observe All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in an environment-friendly way.
Ecowaste is a network of non-government and public interest groups promoting ecological waste solutions to achieve Zero Waste Goals.
The group advised those who will visit their loved ones’ graves to take public transportation to lessen congestion on the road and decrease carbon emission as well.
It could also help to bring less candles, the group said, so as to lessen pollution. It also urged the public not to put plastic wraps on flowers because the plastic could clog waterways or canals.
In addition, EcoWaste urged groups and families to bring trash bags when they go to cemeteries.
