-- Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto is resolute on crushing Manny Pacquiao’s hopes of winning his 7th world title when they clash at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday in Las Vegas (Sunday in Manila).
“I’ve prepared enough for anything Manny can bring to this fight,” the WBO welterweight champion told ABS-CBN News. “And I'm pretty sure I'm going to beat Manny.”
He declared that he is “more than a 100%” determined to defeat the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer.
Cotto made such remarks during his and Pacquiao’s official grand arrival at the MGM Grand.
Pacquiao clearly had more supporters in attendance but Cotto’s fans were undeterred from siding with their idol.
“As soon as he catches Manny right here, different story... Lights out,” said a Cotto supporter.
Cotto by KO?
Bob Arum, the promoter of both Pacquiao and Cotto, also mentioned the possibility of the Puerto Rican scoring a knockout victory over the Filipino in “Firepower.”
“If Cotto wins, he will be able to land that devastating left hook whether to the body or to the head... And once he slows Manny up with his full arsenal… [he] could very well knock Manny out,” said Arum, the head honcho of Top Rank Promotions.
Cotto, meanwhile, shot down once more the persistent rumor saying that he is having a hard time trimming down to the catch weight of 145 lbs.
“If we thought that making the weight of 145 would be a problem, we wouldn’t choose this fight,” he proclaimed. –
