-- More than 100 hopefuls – each one hoping to build a career out of the country’s favorite sport – are joining the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) Rookie Camp Tuesday at the Jose Rizal University gym in Mandayong.

Leading the list are some of the country’s budding collegiate stars, including La Salle’s Hyram Bagatsing, Emilio Aguinado College’s Nikko Hubalde, San Beda’s Billy Afable and Adamson’s Alan Dominic Santos.

Mannie Gabas, the 6-foot-4 star of University of San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu, is also joining the six-hour activity along with a number of Fil-Am players led by 6-foot-4 Anthony Lao and 6-foot Joshua Cubillo.

PBL executive director Butch Maniego said the aspirants will be given several tests to determine their strengths and help coaches of the participating teams select their players for the coming season slated next month.

Maniego also advised the participants to bring two-set of jerseys – dark and light – during the Rookie Camp which starts at 8 a.m.

Walk-in aspirants are allowed to join the camp, but according to Maniego, the players who have signed earlier will be given priority.

The PBL Rookie Draft is tentatively set on Nov. 12.
