-- Top seed University of Santo Tomas begins its title retention bid when it faces bitter UAAP rival Far Eastern U Tuesday at the start of the semifinal round of the Shakey’s V-league Season 6 second conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
The UST-FEU match is scheduled at 4 p.m. after the 2 p.m. tussle between five-time NCAA champion San Sebastian and Adamson U. Both semis matches are best-of-three series.
Both Adamson and FEU eye revenge against UST and San Sebastian which defeated them last conference to arrange a finals showdown
“I just hope na hindi bumaba at sa halip ay mas tumaas pa ang level ng laro ng mga players naming," said UST coach Cesael De Los Santos whose wards topped the elimination and quarterfinal rounds with a combined 10-2 card.
FEU, on the other hand, needed to get past Ateneo-OraCare in a do-or-die playoff Sunday to advance into the semis.
“Once na maging maganda ang receive namin sa UST ay maganda ang chance na manalo kami. I hope na maganda pa rin ang maipapakita ni Numay (Vivas) sa semifinals," said FEU coach Nestor Pamilar.
Despite losing four key players to graduation, San Sebastian managed to finish second behind UST with an 8-4 card while Adamson rode on their 4-1 win-loss record in the quarterfinals to clinch the third spot (7-5).
“Para na ring akong nag-champion dahil sa nasa Top 4 pa rin kami despite na halos naubos ang starting six ko. Nandito na rin kami, hopefully makabalik kami sa finals," said SSC coach Roger Gorayeb.
