-- Cue artist Ronnie Alcano set up an all-Filipino final with Gandy Valle in the 8-Ball Pool Single event while veteran boxer Harry Tañamor gained a spot in the 48-kilogram light flyweight final at the 25th Southeast Asian Games.
The Alcano vs Valle match will take place on Monday at the Convention Hall, Don Chan Palace in Vientiane, Laos. The all-Filipino final assures the Philippines of silver and gold medals.
Alcano defeated Thai Dechawat Poomjaeng, 7-3, while Valle overwhelmed Indonesian Ricky Yang, 7-1, in the semifinals Sunday, according to the SEA Games website.
Women’s World 10-Ball champion Rubilen Amit entered the semifinal round of the 8-Ball Pool Single. She will face Vietnam’s Duong Thuy Vi on Monday. Amit edged Malaysian Joanne Suhana, 5-4, Sunday.
Meanwhile, Efren “Bata” Reyes and Reynaldo Grandea will see action in the English Billiard Single preliminary round on Monday against Malaysian Moh Loon Hong and Vietnamese Nguyen Trung Kien, respectively.
Boxing action
Tañamor, meantime, will aim to win a gold medal against Thai Kaeo Pongprayoon on Thursday at the Olympasia Gymnasium, National University. The Filipino Olympian defeated Malaysian Htet Aung, 12-4, in the semifinal on Sunday.
Four other boxers, meanwhile, will fight in the semifinal round of their respective divisions on Tuesday.
Vicera Bill will face Cambodian Ven Diaman (45kg pinweight), Rey Saludar will clash with Laotian Xayyaphone Chanthasone (51kg flyweight), Charly Suarez will fight Thai Wuttichai Masuk (57kg featherweight), and Joegin Ladon will battle Vilasak Khouandy of Laos (64kg light welterweight).
Four female boxers will also see action against their opponents from Thailand in the semifinals Monday afternoon.
Annie Albania will fight Sopida Satumrum (51kg flyweight), Alice Apparri will take on Dueannapha Ngamlam (48kg light flyweight) and Mitchel Matinez will tackle Peamwilai Laopeam (57kg featherweight).
Josie Gabuco, meanwhile, is featured in the 46kg pinweight final against Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Hoa on Wednesday.
Muay, wushu
Three Filipinos are slated to fight for gold medals in muay. The finals will be held at the Beung Kha Ngong Sport Centre.
Zaidi Laruan will go up against Vixay Bounthavy of Laos (lightweight over 57 up to 60kg) on Monday.
Romnick Pabalate and Jonathan Suello Polosan will face Laotian Thongbang Seuaphom and Thai Weerapon Kwangkhwang, respectively, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, several athletes have made it to the semifinal rounds in wushu. They will compete in their respective wushu semifinal matches on Monday.
Benjie Rivera will face off with Cambodian Sin Saksunnara (Sanshou – 56kg) while Mark Eddiva will fight Vietnamese Nguyen Van Tuan (Sanshou – 65 kg).
Jessie Aligaga will take on his semifinal round foe, Vietnam’s Tran Van Kien, on Tuesday in Sanshou – 48kg. Denver Labador will battle Laotian Bouapha Valasith (Sanshou – 60kg).
Rhea May Rifani, meanwhile, is set to see semifinals action on Tuesday against Thai Chutdao Chaimala (Sanshou – 48kg).
