-- Barangay Ginebra takes on Purefoods Sunday in the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup, hoping to get by the humps one more time before its injured star players become healthy enough to join the Kings again.

Despite playing without the complement of a healthy lineup, the Kings have managed to be competitive by winning two straight games for a solid grip of third place (7-3).

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the team could be back in the pink of health sooner than later," said coach Jong Uichico.

Still out for the Kings going into their 6:30 p.m. encounter with the Giants at the Araneta Coliseum are starters Mark Caguioa and JayJay Helterbrand, and back up guard Junthy Valenzuela.

Despite their absence, the Kings rolled past the Talk `N Text Tropang Texters, 113-104, and Barako Bull, 88-76, behind a pair of 30-point performance by Ronald Tubid.

Like Ginebra, Purefoods also has its shares of health issue.

Starting center Kerby Raymundo sat out the Giants’ 88-79 win over the Tigers last Wednesday owing to a swollen knee.

And like the Kings as well, the Giants have also fought adversities and played good enough to get a share of fourth place (6-4), along with the Tropang Texters.

In the other game scheduled for Sunday, skidding Burger King meets rising Rain or Shine at 4 p.m.

Both teams have identical 3-7 records.

Following a slow start that had them at 0-6 at one time, the Elasto Painters have gotten back into business by winning three of their four matches, capped by a come-from-behind 95-93 over Talk `N Text.

The Whopper, on the other hand, are currently on a two-game losing skid.
