-- The Philippines’ street children football team was in brilliant form again as it shut out Ukraine, 3-0, Saturday night in the 1st Deloitte Street Children World Cup in South Africa.
Noriel Pineones was on target for the second straight game as the Filipinos roared to back-to-back wins that sent them into the consolation pool clash with host South Africa for the SCWC Shield.
The South Africans ousted Brazil, 2-1, to reach the Shield final.
The RP-South Africa tiff was to be played Sunday night.
A day after scoring four goals in the 6-2 drubbing of Brazil, Pineones picked up from where he left off, booting in the first goal in the fourth minute.
The Philippines actually got off to a slow start in the eight-nation tournament, losing its first two games.
Bracketed into the tournament’s so-called Group of Death, the Filipinos, backed by Angus Lawson Memorial Trust and the Henry V. Moran Foundation, lost to the United Kingdom, 2-4, before dropping a 0-2 decision to Tanzania that booted them out of title contention.
