BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Claiming tournament officials made a mistake in their interpretation of the rules and regulation, the Iloilo Football Association has put its recent defeat to fierce rival Negros Occidental under protest.

Iloilo coach Marjo Allado protested Thursday’s 1-3 defeat in the Philippine Football Federation-Suzuki Under-23 Cup because of the 30-minute extra time imposed by league officials in the first leg of the home-and-away title duel.

The protest was lodged Thursday night, and match commissioner Augilbert Encontro said they were expected to act on the complaint late yesterday after a meeting with PFF and tournament officials. In a highly-physical match at the Central Philippine University in Iloilo, both teams battled to a 1-1 draw after regulation, but to the surprise of the players and coaches, an extra time was ordered.
