-- UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar revealed that he has been struggling with an illness, prompting him to pull out of his scheduled UFC 106 bout against Shane Carwin on Nov. 21.
The illness, which has not yet been revealed, forced Lesnar out of training camp for almost a month, UFC.com reported.
Brian Stegeman, the co-manager of Lesnar, told Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports that the UFC champ had “upper respiratory issues, fever and extreme fatigue.”
According to Stegeman, he does not know if Lesnar had the A(H1N1) virus.
Iole also reported that Lesnar told UFC president Dana White that he was not able to get over the sickness that has “been going on for a long time.”
“He said he’s never been this sick in his life,” added White.
The UFC 106 headliner has been changed to “Ortiz vs Griffin 2.” Tito “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Ortiz and Forrest Griffin will clash at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The UFC said on its website it hopes to reschedule the Lesnar-Carwin match early next year.
Carwin, meanwhile, said in a Twitter feed that the bout “looks like it is postponed till Jan. 2.”
“My heart just sank, as you can imagine,” he told Yahoo Sports. Carwin has an undefeated record (11-0) while Lesnar has 4 wins and 1 loss.
