-- The solid performances of Mark Cardona of Talk 'N Text and Reynel Hugnatan of Alaska Aces have been credited for contributing to the early success of their respective teams in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Alaska leads the standings, 4-0, while the Tropang Texters are in second place, 3-0.

Due to their “overwhelming desire to help their team win,” Cardona and Hugnatan were declared the KFC/Accel-PBA Press Corps' Co-Players of the Week for Oct. 19 to 25, PBA.ph reported.

Hugnatan averaged 17 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Aces coach Tim Cone told PBA.ph, “His post work and versatility is a real matchup nightmare for other teams.”

Cardona, meantime, averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals.

He said he plans to focus on improving his defense and getting his teammates more involved in scoring.

“Nakuha ko na kasi 'yung scoring title last year kaya gusto ko namang ibahin ngayon ang laro ko,” he noted.

Talk 'N Text coach Chot Reyes, for his part, said Cardona is showing “signs of his gaining maturity as a player” because he “gets his points now with fewer shots.”

The Tropang Texters will see action on Wednesday against the San Miguel Beermen at the Araneta Coliseum. The earlier game will be between the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and Barako Bull Energy Boosters. – With a report from PBA.ph
