-- The Philippine Patriots were victorious before the home crowd as they overcame the Thailand Tigers in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) Sunday.
The Patriots trounced the Tigers, 74-61, to the delight of the home crowd at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Louie Alas made his debut as the Patriots’ coach in Sunday’s game, the ABL website reported.
Elmer Espiritu and Val Acuña of the University of the East Red Warriors and Nonoy Baclao of the Ateneo Blue Eagles also made their first appearance in the league.
The Tigers, meanwhile, fielded former Patriot Ricky Ricafuerte, American import Chaz Briggs, and former University of the Philippines Maroon Axel Doruelo.
The Patriots will see action against the Brunei Barracudas on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
The RP cagers lost to the Singapore Slingers, 69-74, on Oct. 18. They won their first ABL game against Satria Muda BritAma of Indonesia, 75-67, on Oct. 10.
