-- Spurred by Manny Pacquiao's recent victory over Miguel Cotto, a well-motivated "Marvelous" Marvin Sonsona will step into the ring against Mexican Alejandro Hernandez for his first title defense at the Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada this weekend.
Sonsona, the youngest Filipino boxing champion at 19 years old, will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight title against Hernandez.
A report by Examiner.com said Sonsona, a General Santos native just like Pacquiao, is “looking every bit as sharp and strong as he is motivated [by the Pacman's win].”
Incidentally, Sonsona's cousin Eden also won one of the undercard matches of the "Firepower" card that featured the Pacquiao-Cotto fight.
The teenage fighter won the WBO title in September after beating Jose “Carita” Lopez of Puerto Rico by unanimous decision.
Another Filipino, Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales will be featured under the Sonsona-Hernandez bout.
Tribute
The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Scarborough central MPP Brad Duguid and Orion Sports Management Allan Tremblay recently paid honor to Sonsona at the Armenian Community Center in Canada TheBoxingExaminer.com reported.
The event was held to pay tribute to and show appreciation for the teen world boxing champion, whose fan base in Caanada is steadily growing.
Meanweahile, Philippine Consul General Alejandro Mosquera took oppotunity of the occasion to the Canadian Government for all its help, including the $200,000 donation for flood victims in the Philippines.
