-- Filipino Grandmasters (GM) Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. and Mark Paragua of the Philippines won their 7th-round assignments in the on-going 3rd Asian Indoor Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
It was a rebound for Antonio, who fell to Iranian GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami in the 6th, before beating International Master (IM) Sami Khader of Jordan using the white pieces.
Paragua also got a favorable outing after dismantling (FIDE Master) FM Teerapabpaisit Wisuwat of Thailand following his 6th-round loss to GM Le Quang Liem of Vietnam.
Antonio raised his total score to 4.5 points while Paragua notched 4.0 points.
Antonio will be going up against Vietnamese GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son while Paragua will be at the opposite of FM Husse Ali.
Meanwhile, Chinese GM Wang Hao outclassed Indian GM Pentala Harikrishna in the 6th then split the point with Indian GM Krishnan Sasikiran in the 7th to score a total of 6.0 points maintain his hold on the top spot.
The RP chess team Vietnam campaign is supported by National Chess Federation of the Philippines president Prospero “Butch” Pichay Jr., secretary-general Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino Jr., and Philippine Sports Commission chairman Harry Angping.
