-- Is Manny Pacquiao the best fighter of all time?
Veteran boxing promoter Bob Arum thinks so.
"I will go on record and I really believe that Manny Pacquiao is the best fighter that I’ve ever seen, and that includes (Muhammad) Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler.
"I have never ever seen anything like it," Arum preached in the aftermath of the astounding beating Pacquiao inflicted on former welterweight champion Miguel Cotto.
Only in his second fight as a welterweight, the 30-year old pride of the Philippines towered above Cotto during the entire 12-round fight despite the Puerto Rican being the bigger and stronger fighter between the two.
And that’s what impressed Arum the most, noting how Pacquiao started as a lanky flyweight 14 years ago and became one of the most feared fighters in the world of prizefighting today, who just outslugged a natural welterweight in the stature of Cotto.
"Remember, he was in with the bigger guy, one of the top welterweights in the world. And he outpunched him, outsped him and outboxed him. There’s nothing Miguel could do to stop that express," said the Harvard-schooled Arum, whose been in the boxing business for more than four decades now.
Ever the humble person that he is, Pacquiao admitted he’s not in the business of comparing himself with other boxing greats.
"I don’t want to compare my achievements to anybody who made it big in boxing. I’m just doing my job," said the Pacman, who bared that this would be the last weight division he’s going to fight.
Roach wouldn’t commit himself to saying his most famous boxer is the best of all time.
Rather, Roach pointed out, "he’s the greatest fighter of his era. That’s for sure. One Hundred percent."
