-- Forrest Griffin struck back at Tito Ortiz, eking out a victory over his fellow former UFC light heavyweight champion in the main event of UFC 106.

Griffin, who was defeated by Ortiz in 2006 by split decision, retaliated with a split decision win Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas (Sunday in Manila).

The scores were 30-27, 29-28, and 28-29 in favor of Griffin, according to UFC.com. Griffin now has 17 wins and 6 defeats.

“Tito was a great fight for me, I think we’re gonna have to do a third – it’s 1-1,” Griffin told UFC.com.

Ortiz, for his part, admitted that Griffin was the better fighter.

“Forrest came with a lot of heart and he put on a great show tonight,” said “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy,” who dropped to 16-7-1.
