-- Less than a week after being blown out at home, the San Antonio Spurs exacted revenge on the Los Angeles Lakers, dealing them their worst loss of the season, Tuesday (Wednesday PHL time), on the Lakers’ homecourt.
Tony Parker led the Spurs with 29 points and 13 assists while Tim Duncan tallied 19 points and eight rebounds for the Spurs.
In the absence of Kobe Bryant, the Lakers relied again on Andrew Bynum, who scored 21 points with seven rebounds. Paul Gasol and Matt Barnes added 16 apiece in the losing effort.
The two teams started the game strong with the Lakers getting a slim one-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 28-27. But in the second, the Spurs went on a scoring spree, scoring 36 points on a 71 percent shooting clip for a 63-47 halftime score. The Lakers never recovered as they were outscored in the second half 49-44.
With the win, the Spurs grabbed the number one spot in the Western Conference with a 44-16 win-loss record. Erstwhile number one's, the Oklahoma City Thunder, slid down to second with 44-17 card.
